La Armada de Estados Unidos divulgó este martes las primeras imágenes del buque de transporte anfibio USS San Antonio (LPD 17) en operaciones en el mar Caribe, como parte de su despliegue para combatir a grupos narcoterroristas como el Cartel de los Soles.
Las fotografías, captadas el 28 de agosto, muestran al San Antonio maniobrando en formación con el Grupo Anfibio Listo Iwo Jima (IWO ARG) durante su misión en aguas regionales.
El navío integra la fuerza expedicionaria junto a la 22ª Unidad Expedicionaria de Marines (MEU) con capacidad de Operaciones Especiales, que participa en entrenamientos y maniobras navales.
En las imágenes difundidas se observa a infantes de marina estadounidenses realizando ejercicios de tránsito simulado de estrechos a bordo del San Antonio, como parte de las operaciones rutinarias de adiestramiento.
El USS San Antonio está diseñado para transportar y desembarcar tropas, vehículos y equipos en operaciones anfibias, además de servir como plataforma para helicópteros y aeronaves de despegue vertical.
